Sedmé studiové album Green Day American Idiot vyšlo v září 2004 a od té doby se prodalo přes 23 milionů kopií po celém světě, včetně 9 milionů v USA. Album je mistrovským dílem punkrockové opery, které získalo v roce 2005 cenu Grammy© za nejlepší rockové album. Z alba bylo vydáno pět úspěšných singlů: „Boulevard of Broken Dreams”, „Holiday”, „Wake Me Up When September Ends”, „Jesus of Suburbia” a titulní skladba „American Idiot”.
• Kromě původního alba obsahuje tato super deluxe krabička 15 nevydaných ukázek, 15-ti skladbový koncert z roku 2004 z Irving Plaza, NYC (9 dříve nevydaných skladeb) a 15 skladeb, které byly vydány jako B-strany a bonusové skladby. Balení je doplněno dvěma Blu-ray disky, které obsahují film „Heart Like A Hand Grenade”, 35 minut Green Day živě v BBC a nový, nevydaný dokument: „20 Years of American Idiot”.
